ProTeXt

Thursday, 28 July 2005 01:31 by CSchenk

It seems that the current MiKTeX-CD got too big for this year's ProTeXt. Thomas Feuerstack asked me to free 50 MB. Impossible! I advised Thomas to create a non-"Live" version of ProTeXt: the CD then contains a snapshot of the current package repository. This approach has three drawbacks:

  • you cannot run MiKTeX from CD
  • the setup process takes longer (cabinet files have to be extracted)
  • you loose the ability to share MiKTeX in a network environment

MetaPost problem / workaround

Thursday, 21 July 2005 21:17 by CSchenk

Due to some altered memory settings in miktex.ini, it is required to refresh the dump files (*.fmt;*.efmt;*.base;*.mem). Normally this happens automatically. But this time MetaPost fails to "recognize" the new memory settings and stops with an error message ("I'm broken. Please show this to someone who can fix can fix"). The workaround is simple: creating new dump files (via MiKTeX Options) solves the problem. For more information, see this bug report.

New miktex.ini and language.dat

Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:37 by CSchenk

The current update batch installs new versions of miktex.ini and language.dat.

miktex.ini: the memory parameters have been adjusted. For example, trie_op_size has been increased to 35111. Hope that this makes ConTeXt users happy.

language.dat: now contains the same set of hyphenation patterns as the the current TeXLive distribution.

Expecting an answer from me?

Friday, 8 July 2005 00:05 by CSchenk

I just discovered that there were some emails in the contact email queue. For some reason, the email thread didn't do it's job right. After restarting the web application, the emails were sent.

If you have used the contact form in the last couple of days: I will now read your message :-)

I have uploaded a pretest version of the MiKTeX CD (ISO image):

The final version (available some time in July) will be the base for this year's ProTeXt.
