Natalio

I think that this website is now a joke. There is
nothing here for simple users of Miktex. Perhaps
Miktex 2.5 don't will appear in 2006 (it should be appear in 2004, thus in 2005, next in 2006, .....). Thanks by the past versions of Miktex.

What are you trying to say? That MiKTeX 2.5 should be released now? What do think is missing on the project page?

I have to defend Schenk in response to Natalio's email. I've been using miktex since 1997 and Schenk has never made a penny from it (at least from me). To criticize the state of the website, given how many latex users depend on Schenk's free labor, is uncalled for. Perhaps Natalio is volunteering free labor to help improve the website?

Either way many of us are very grateful for all the work that goes in to miktex. Don't let the complainers get you down!

I agree with David, we should all be grateful for the amount of work that Schenk puts in this proyect, negative comments are completely uncalled.

Miktek takes LaTex to a wide range of users. It's a great package, free and well supported. I'm doing my thesis; if my thesis has a wonderfull typesetting I should say THANKS A LOT to Mr. Schenk that made "Tex" installing and updating a matter of seconds.

Thanks Mr. Schenk.

Best regards from Rome, Italy

I agree with David too.I am a beginer of latex, and I found help in here. I am very gratefle for Schenk's free labor.

I've been using MikTeX for several years now and the work done by Christian Schenk is quite frankly amazing. So why the criticism?

I totally agree with David. I very much appreciate what Schenk has done. MikTex is a great tool for my job. Thanks.

Why a so bad comment from Natalio's part? Does he uses MikTeX by the way? I am using MikTeX with WinEdt for the past 8 months or so and I have produced two articles with this duo and many of my fellow students have been quite impress, especially in comparaison with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice. Schenk is doing a fine jod indeed. So, we must all thanks him for the time and pain he put in this project.

Let me join the thanks section.

I am a senior undergraduate student in Physics, and have been using MikTeX for two years.

Last semester, two classmates and I prepared a 10 hours Introduction to LaTeX informal course for other students in the faculty. There were about 50 students ranging from 1st undergraduate year to first graduate year.

We chose to run MikTeX on Windows, since many of them had never used linux before AND we thought MikTeX was the easiest LaTeX distribution to be used by newbies.

It was a great experience that we will repeat this year. And it wouldn't have been possible without Mr. Schenk. So, thank you very very much for all your work.

Best wishes from Barcelona, Spain.

The more rebuttals to the ridulous and totally uncalled for reply that started this thread the better. I have been using the combination of MikTeX and WinEdt since the first versions of both. All my writing has been done with this framework. Christian has for all these years been doing an amazing job and I am not sure whether the TeX community can ever thank him enough.

THANKS, Christian!

I concur with all the good comments.

I've been using MikTex for approx. 6 years,
and it has served me very well.

Its availability, reliability and workability
is very good, and especially good considering it is free!

Thanx!!!

I join the still longer getting thanx list.

Thanks for all the improvements of yap, thanks for the incredible frequent updates, the (yes!) easy configuration and the space-saving on-the-fly installation.

I am using it for years now and never was disappointed.

The comment of Natalio is absolutely unqualified and almost probable he is a troll. plonk!

I've been using MikTeX for a long time and I'm completely satisfied with it. I use it for writing a short memo as well as for writing my Thesis. It's great and I thank Christian Schenk for creating and maintaining it!

Yuriy Yakovenko

I am a Ukrainian user, and sometimes I need Cyrillics for my papers. For this reason, I had a possibility to estimate the quality of the language support in the MikTeX project. It is fantastic to see such a level of convenience and reliability in a FREE project. I cannot understand the remark by Natalio about simple users. I am quite a simple user myself, not a system programmer, and I have rarely seen such a level of user-friendliness. Many thanks to Mr. Schenk and the whole MikTeX team.

Greatest gratitude, admiration, and esteem
to Christian Schenk for all the work that
has gone into MikTeX over the years: I use
it mostly with Emacs+Auctex, and I am a
happy user.

I once made a small financial
contribution to the project: now I feel like
making another -- all are well deserved.

Many thanks from Niskayuna, NY, USA.

I think Natalio is a joke.
Hope he doesn't appear until MikTex 2.5. So then he can complain about version 2.6 not showing up.

Thanks for an incredible job.

I'm quite staggered by Natalio's comments! I can't really add anything to the large number of people who strongly disagree with him. I hope Christian gets the message from all of us - keep up the great work you do and don't let stupid criticisms put you off.

I hope Natalio gets to read all of these comments and has the grace to try to justify what he said or else apologise.

I have been MikTex from around 2001, and it is simply fantastic. Many times I have found MikTex produce superior pdfs than the one that comes shipped default with linux. Chrisitian is doing great service for the TeX community, and graduate students like me will forever be in his debt.

Thanks for MikTeX, Chris, and don't evrn bother answering stupid comment like the one on the top of this page.

MiKTeX is a great product. I use it since 1998. However I like version 1.20 (December 1999) most of all, it is very compact but contains everything I need, and I keep a CD with 1.20 very carefully... Many thanks to Mr. Schenk.

Amr Khorshed

MiKTeX introduced me to the world of LaTeX after being a Word/WordPerfect user for years. I have been using it now for over five years and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. If it were not for MiKTeX, many a PC user would not have ventured into the LaTeX world.

Thanks to all the MiKTeX developers who are doing this wonderful job at no cost to the end user. I am sure criticism is welcome, but positive one that adds value to this great product.

Keep up the excellent work.

Hi Christian Schenk. Thanks for unselfishly making TeX'ing possible for the masses. It makes it possible for researchers to focus on the essentials - so we don't have to bother with all the hazzles.

Don't get discouraged by random and misplaced comments that a public project this size will inherently be exposed to. Trust the significant majority of your users (and friends) on their support to the MIKTEX project.

Thanks in advance!

I have recently produced a book - (the topology of the 2x2 games: a new periodic table, published by Routledge) USING MicTeX. The program made the job fun for me and my co-author. We ahve gone on to become serious Latex users and it is entirely duee to this program. I am eager for the next version, but boy-oh-boy do I apereciate the work that has been done for me already.

Jan Smits

I have used Miktex since 2001, and was a Tex or LaTex user since 1987. in a Unix environment. Since I had to work at home, a was having to rely on my own PC, and found the Miktex project. I wrote a book on on ( Hand Recovery After Stroke, Buttermorth Heinemann) and a few papers an conference proceedings.
I was never aware that the Miktex project was the work of a single volunteer. I thought that it came from a university team , like TeX came from Stanford University.

Now that I realize that this is not the case I have to say that the work of Christian Schenk is of professorial quality, and I whole heartedly congratulate him with his work.
