GPL Ghostscript 8.50

Tuesday, 3 January 2006 10:42 by CSchenk

I have compiled the brand new GPL Ghostscript version. It will be available with the next MiKTeX update (as mgs.exe). GPL Ghostscript is used internally by some MiKTeX utilities (Yap, epstopdf, gsftopk, ...).

Postscript interpreter:

When documents has ps image
Yap reports ,,Cannot locate ghostscript (gswin32c.exe)''

Seems that Yap cannot find/executer mgs.exe. Make sure that the executable is in the MiKTeX bin directory (C:\texmf\miktex\bin).

Q: What happens when you run

mgs.exe --version

I have a Problem with mgs. After invoking the following:
> SET MIKTEX_GS_LIB=C:\texmf\ghostscript\base;C:\texmf\fonts
> mgs -sDEVICE=mswinpr2 -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE LaTeX_Export.ps
I'm asked to choose the printer. After choosing the printer, mgs closes with:
> MiKTeX GPL Ghostscript 8.50: Unrecoverable error, exit code 255
With yap, the same file (the LaTeX_Export.dvi that I used to make the LaTeX_Export.ps) is printed.
With gswin32.exe, it works too.

Installed MikTex on vista (the latest version of as date of this post) and mgs.exe takes up almost all of the CPU and makes YAP unresponsive for a long time. Any ideas how to fix this problem?
