New uninstaller released

Friday, 13 January 2006 02:24 by CSchenk

I have released a new version of the MiKTeX uninstaller (aka "Remove MiKTeX! Wizard").

The new uninstaller makes a more thorough job:

  • removes the MiKTeX bin directory from the PATH environment variable
  • removes all registry settings
  • completely removes the installation directory (C:\texmf) (previous versions left some files in the installation directory)
  • removes the data directory (C:\localtexmf)

If for some reason you want to keep the data directory, you can always uncheck the "Tidy up thoroughly" check box on the welcome page.

This is skybluekite. I was hoping to be added to a new group called "MiKTex Users" or something along that theme since I am not a developer. I was going to post a thread, but that doesn't seem to be an option yet. Well, the thread I want to start is below:

Title: Questions about repository and size.

Hello All! I just downloaded & installed MiKTeK using the Setup Wizard and it seems to have gone well. Here are my questions:

1. Can I remove the Package repository now that I've installed the packages? It is using up 246 MBytes of storage.

2. I used the "Large" option, yet the size of the installed MiKTeX directories are 552 MBytes. I thought that was the size of the "Total" option.

At 798 MBytes, it is a bit bigger than I expected.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
SkyBlueKite

Is the uninstaller for MiKTeX 2.4 still available?
For some reason MiKTeX is not listed by Windows among removable software, and I want to disinstall 2.4 before upgrading to 2.5...

Any help is appreciated,
Alberto

Is there any way to silently uninstall MiKTeX? I'm struggling to make it a properly managed application, and need to be able to uninstall it via Altiris.
