  • The update wizard will stop working on December 31, 2006.
  • Automatic installation of missing packages will stop working on December 31, 2006.
  • All packages will be marked obsolete in the package manager list view.

MiKTeX 2.4 aficionados are encouraged to update their MiKTeX 2.4 system now.

Could you please provide an actual basic 2.5 installer before.
With Version 2.5.2471 currently two update runs are needed to be up to date.
I need this for clean reinstallations on some older PC's with old and possibly misconfigured MiKTeX 2.4.

thanks in advance!

I think that it's a pity. The new YAP and it's way of handling postscript pictures is, in my humble opinion, far worse than the 2.4 version.

Moreover Christian has updated the ghostiscript bin cab also ofor 2.4 version, and it doesn't work in 2.4. I had to step backward...

Anyway, When one is forced he has to obey... and probably I will (on 1st jan Wink )

All
- miktex-*.cab and all
- obsolete cabinet files (e.g., xkeyval.cab)

I understand that 2.4 will no longer be maintained. However, is there anywhere to download the packages in order to have a local repository? 2.5 as it currently stands has too many problems.

No, MiKTeX 2.4 packages cannot be downloaded anymore. If you hurry, you can download proTeXt 1.3, which contains an old (Oct 2005) 2.4 snapshot: www.tug.org/protext

MiTex 2.4 is great. Why do they take these decisions? Is maintenance such a big problem to continue with so many of us using the product?

Which are the packages in CTAN/systems/windows/miktex/tm/packages/ (cab or tar.bz2 files) not suitable for MiKTeX 2.4?
