Hi

Great to see this making a beta as portable versions are so incredibly useful. I use NoteTabPro as my writing environment with TexLips scripts to automate running MiKTeX. Running this on Windows XP SP3, the cmd file worked fine, however when I tried using pdflatex on a tex file it crashed with the last line shown loading a4wide.sty.

Is there a method to feedback problems with the exact information you would like?

Many thanks

mike

You can either post the problem to the mailing list or (maybe a better option) write a bug report: sourceforge.net/.../

The miktex bin directory is added to PATH only when a command prompt is launched. Why do not add this when the miktex-portable.cmd is started ? (it may be usefull for using tex editors like texmaker)

does anybody know a usefull editor for this version?

normally i use techniccenter, but this has to be installed normally on the hd.

miktex + LATEX-editor for usb: that would be fine Wink

The next beta (to be released very soon) will include a portable version of TeXworks (an integrated development environment for TeX and LaTeX).

A very nice, portable, tex editor is WinShell.

To make it portable you just create a folder named "Settings" in the directory where you unpacked it.

Hallo,

wenn ich das Paket "mathptmx" oder "helvet" einbinde, bekomme ich Fehlermeldungen wie die Folgende:

!pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file ptmr8t): Font ptmr8t at 540 not found
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!

Hi,

Today I have used the "Update" Option and Miktex Portable has stooped working.

It seems this update is a "major" update that has corrupted in some way the portable version of Miktex.

I had updated Miktex portable before with no problems.

Regards

Ramon

First I am very happy to see the portable version be released. You had announced that months ago in the blog, and so, today I remembered that and searched for it. But I'm not really pleased with the portable edition. I think it is not nice to handle the initialization process by launching a command script. Why don't you make an executable from it? Showing a nice window with the progress in percents... Especially for unskilled users, this might be a better option.

I cite (Karl's thread):

----
!pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file ptmr8t): Font ptmr8t at 540 not found
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!
----

How can one actually register new fonts?

After installing Miktex portable and running the commandscript, TexWorks will not start from the context menu, though yap, command propmpt, etc. start just fine.

I therefore installed Texmaker portable, but when I try to run pdflatex I get: "Error: could not start the command"

Any ideas?
(Using win xp)

I installed mt-28-beta-portable on Vista SP1. There are errors from mkfmt and texworks will not start, although tex and pdftex work for simple files. Trying to run texworks from the command prompt gives:

C:\Users\gwhite\Documents\Testing\MiKTeX-2.8>texworks
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.

The event log has event 78 and refers to a config file that mentions the MSVCRT90 .dll's. "Side-by-Side" is a trick from MS to allow apps to specify a particular .dll (e.g., a workaround for ".dll" version conflicts). I have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. This is a shared laptop, so who knows what has been installed/uninstalled by others.

Usually the event log entry contains some useful hints: which version of the runtime is required, which version of the runtime is available, which component failed to load (TeXworks, Qt, ...).

METAFONT is currently (Beta 4) broken. This will be fixed soon.

Jens

Hi,

i am new to Latex systems in general but facing some problems using the portable versions of both texmaker and miktex..

i first extracted miktex portable zip file on usb and then i did the same with Texmaker portable extracting its .zip file to the usb stick.

now i'm getting the error "could not start the command" when trying to compile a (syntactic correct) tex-file into pdf (for example)...

What kind of things do i have to adopt in the Texmaker configuration and how to get it work respectively...

thanks for your help!

Jens
